It is Just as Hard to Get a Good as a Bad Reserve Retirement Reform

"ROA is exploring many approaches. We are meeting with the offices that are serious about retirement in Congress,(Chambliss, Graham, J. Wilson, Latham) and we also meeting with the DoD membership who recognize that something has to be done. We helped write the Senator Zell Miller legislation with an actuarial spread. We are also working on a model based on the amount and longevity of service."

So went a reply to from the ROA legislative director on questioning about what exactly the Reserve Officer Association supported for Reserve Retirement reform.

Space-A and Early Retirement Dropped

Unhappy news regarding the 2006 "NDAA" National Defense Authorization Act. Not only did they not adopt the minimalist approached Chambliss amendment that would given 3 months reduction in age for receipt of Reservist retire pay for every 3 months on active served in a contingency since September 9, 2001, but another
benefit improvement for both Reservist retirees and DAVs.

No time for letting Vets down

We are looking at wounded from two vantage points:  Combat medical care has improved to the point that numbers of dead are far less a percentage than in previous conflicts.  But according to a Tom Philpott column, the nature of the wounds treated have never been worse.  IED (improvised explosive devices) have taken trauma to a new level.

We cannot ignore the needs of our returning National Guard, Reservists and Active Component personnel.
